How the Staatenliste zur Visumpflicht works
The Auswärtiges Amt publishes the page "Staatenliste zur Visumpflicht" ("Übersicht zur Visumpflicht bzw. -freiheit bei Einreise in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland"). Source: auswaertiges-amt.de, list dated 3 June 2026, retrieved 5 November 2026.
What the list contains
For each state or territory it gives one answer to "Visumpflicht für Deutschland: Ja/Nein". "Ja" means a visa is required, "Nein" means it is not. Some answers carry numbers in brackets that refer to footnotes under the list.
Footnotes
The footnotes state conditions, for example that a visa-free stay is limited to 90 days in any period of 180 days, that the exemption applies only to biometric passports, or that residence titles can be applied for after visa-free entry. Each page shows the footnotes of its entry in German, as published, with our English translation. The German text is authoritative.
Country names
The source writes country names in German. This site uses standard English short names for titles and lists, and each page shows the German name from the source in the row "Name in the source".
